artist statment

I have been interested in differing theories of consciousness and human identity for some time, and continue to explore these ideas in my work. I have primarily used the human figure as a basis for my investigations, and focused on a combination of hot glass techniques, producing small works through to large-scale installations.

The figurative elements imply notions of identity, while the supporting and suspending structures reference elements that play a role in the creation of the individual. The titles suggest a point of reference for the viewer to interpret.

For me, the act of interpretation or understanding is the most interesting part about creating sculpture. It fills the space between the artist and the viewer - the space of the unspoken conversation.
