Scott Chaseling
Scott Chaseling is highly schooled in glassblowing, casting,
grinding, polishing and many other techniques, which he has
gathered during twenty years of work in glass. His reputation
in hot glass is very high. Being recognized for his skills
as a glassblower, he has travelled all over the world in the
traditional way of ancient Italian, Czech and German glass
masters, both teaching and demonstrating. Along with another
important Australian artist Kirstie Rea, he became the first
exponent of the “roll-up” technique. He has also
acted occasionally as an experienced glass master in international
glass teams and has used his skills and abilities to assist
in the realisation of the vision of the other artist (Klaus
Moje). The artist’s expansive repertoire of skills has
given him extensive freedom in his choice of ideas. Though
he has full respect for glass, this difficult, enigmatic, seducing
and tricky substance, he treats glass as the means, not the
goal in his conceptions. Skills, ability, and experience in
manipulating with glass are nothing more than an alphabet for
him. The alphabet is used in the process the implementing the “glass
novels”, or the “glass diaries”.
